City hit by flash mobbing

PUZZLED shoppers and office workers found themselves in the middle of a massive pillow fight in the city centre yesterday.

Around 100 people took part in the fight as part of the "flash mob" craze, which sees groups of strangers converging on an agreed spot to take part in a useless act before disappearing again

The pillow fight outside the Royal Scottish Academy on Princes Street follows a similar event on Castle Street last November. Waverley Station has also been targeted by flash mobbers, with the concourse turned into a dance floor last month.

Dozens of people with personal stereos surprised commuters by suddenly converging on the station and starting to dance.

One of the first "flash mobbings" took place in New York when scores of people descended on the rug department of the famous Macy’s store and surrounded one rug to apparently debate its merits.
